Finally, My W-2
Am I the only been that’s been impatiently waiting for their W-2? I FINALLY got mine on Saturday and I plan on doing my taxes today! I plan on using some of my refund to start an emergency fund and the majority to reduce some debt.
So I’ve heard a million times that you should always make sure you have your deductions at the right level so that THE MAN doesn’t end up owing you money at the end of the year. Personally, I’d prefer to have the peace-of-mind of knowing that I won’t owe the IRS than getting a tax free and interest free loan all year. But I also don’t want to be so stupid that I end up with a large refund at the end of the year either. That would mean that I am depriving myself all year and giving the government a loan. So I change my deduction two to three times each year. That was I make sure they will owe me something, but not too much.

No Buy Month
So Natalie over at the Frugalista Files is taking up the No Buy Month challenge. I heard about this challenge from Suzy Orman and actually started it at the beginning of the year. So this means no credit card use for one week, no eating out for one month and dammit, there was a third but I keep forgetting what it is!
Anyway I’ve been good at it so far! My one bump in the road came when I got sick earlier this month. Medication and copays come to about $160 total but I had enough cash in the bank to cover it. Before starting this I would NEVER have had enough cash and probably would have been trying to Nyquil myself. Thankfully I didn’t because it turns out that I had a bad case of bronchitis.

Welcome!
So let me introduce myself. My name is Sandy and I’m a 30 year old female. I live and work in New York and I’m in some serious debt. So 2009 rolled around and I decided that it’s time to take a real look at what I’m doing to get out of debt. I work a full time job and get home after 7pm most weekdays so getting a second job has been hard. What I’ve decided to do instead is focus on how I’m spending the money I’m making and how I can reduce what I spend without wanting to jump off the nearest bridge.
As of January 1, 2009 I owe various creditors something like $105,665.31. I don’t own a house so I can’t even make the excuse that it’s a mortgage. It’s some serious unsecured debt. So let me list out my debt to begin with. You have to know where you’re starting to know where to go right?
