Best of The Week In Personal Finance

boo-boxes

It’s Halloween, and I just realized that I have no candy.  My trick-or-treaters will be pretty pissed off and I’d rather not risk an egging, so off to CVS I go for some candy.  But before I go, I owe you the list of the bests personal finance posts that I found on the web this week.  In honor of the little people that will be invading my doorstep any minute now, let’s vist some blogs with posts about candy and food!

Squirrels had a somewhat funny post about free food and doing what’s right in a post entitled Squirreling Gone Wild #17: The Magic Gumball Machine and Free Cookies.

Aloysa has a really great post about losing weight.  We’ve spoken about the effect that weight can have on your finances, so I decided to include this one called How I (Barely) Survived 3 days of the Weight Watchers.

Debt Ninja featured a guest post by the Digerati Life called The Marshmallow Test: A Look At Delayed Gratification. I love marshamallow, but I have a harder time resisting candy corn.  So, for me this would be the candy corn test.

The Digerati Life featured a guest post by Mrs. Accountability called Baking Cookies and Sharing Them In A Cookie Exchange.  If someone was in a cookie exchange with me, they’d be on the losing end, but not because I can’t bake.  I just enjoy eating more than baking and I have a serious cookie weakness.

Financial Samurai was not to be outdone with The Best Way To Lose Weight And Become Debt Free. You have to read the post, but somewhere in there Sam talks about gaining weight as a strategy for putting up bigger numbers when you lose weight.  I don’t know Sam.

Finally, Bucksome Boomer had a great post about food stamps.  Well, according to her, “they’re not called food stamps anymore“.  We all need to eat, so if you find yourself in need of food, don’t hesitate to apply for and use them.

This blog has been gaining some traffic lately and really benefitted from a feature on The Simple Dollar for the post entitles, It’s Your Fault That You’re Still Unemployed.  Traffic went through the roof as you can see below, so I owe a HUGE thank you to Trent.

The same post was one of the editor’s choice for The Carnival of Personal Finance #279 hosted by Dough Roller. The follow-up post entitled, What’s Keeping You From Finding A Job was included in the Carnival of Personal Finance #280 hosted by Cash Money Life.

Political Calculations included my post on being a tougher landlord in his roundup and called it “The Best Post of the Week Anywhere”.  I’d like to agree, so thanks!

Money Crashers included by post on 5 Stupid Ideas That Made Millions.  Interestingly, beyond my post that Trent linked to, this is the most popular post on my blog.  Everyone is looking for some way to strike it rich.  When I come up with my million dollar idea, I won’t let you know.

Congrats to Jaime Tardy of Eventual Millionaire for her appearance on CNN as a featured “Debt Buster”.  Good job!

Finally, my Alexa search rank has improve tremendously!  I’m nowsitting at a 363,424 rank.  This compares to more than 2 million in April.  This is all due to YOU coming back and reading often.  Keep up the good work.  I hope to crack the 200,000′s in the next few months.

Happy Halloween everyone.
