A few years ago during the big mortgage meltdown, I became a homeowner for the first time. Although I purchased my first home, it was not one that I planned on living in; I had made the decision to become a real estate investor. Since then I have added one additional investment property bringing my[…]
Last night the hubby and I were busy making dinner when the phone rang. Hubster picked up the phone and began talking. As I was busy stirring the peppers and onion for fajitas (olé!), I heard him confirming his date-of-birth and a red flag went off in my head like an explosion. […]
There’s a relatively new scam in town that’s been picking up speed like a bullet train and you might already be a victim. This scam involves identity thieves using your information to file electronic returns with the IRS claiming refunds, some much higher than you would be entitled to, and pocketing the funds before you have had a chance to file your tax return. The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) states that there was a 62% increase in this crime from 2011 to 2012. Haven’t heard about it? Get ready to be scared into action.
Identity thieves used to be relegated to the realm of credit cards. In the boom days of real estate some thieves moved on to mortgage fraud. Now that about 80% of all tax returns are filed electronically, some thieves have moved on to committing a tax fraud which can land the victim in serious hot water. […]
Do not dial *72, it’s a scam!
Imagine that your phone rings late at night and someone panicked sounding is on the other end telling you that someone that you know is in serious condition in the hospital and your phone number was the last one dialed on their cell phone. They tell you that the only way for them to give you information is by having you call an official at the hospital, but first you have to dial *72 and then a number. […]
TweetI predicted the foreclosure crisis. No, really, I did. Let me tell you my story.
I’ve worked for a number of the large banks that you have heard of. Probably too much in fact. I was fired from a job at one investment bank after a few months of butting heads with my new boss. He was a real idiot and very full of himself, and I refused to kiss his ass. Call it pride, I call it dignity. Within 3 weeks I had a job at a commercial bank, in their wholesale mortgage lending division. It was my first time working in this kind of banking institution and I was up for a change of pace from working in Manhattan. I can safely say that it was at Washington Mutual (now part of Chase) in an office park on Long Island. There was one large, very open room filled with people all processing mortgage applications. I don’t even know how many people worked there because it was not a warm and friendly place. […]
I know that I’m beating a dead horse here, but if you’re still a little mad about the shellacking (thank you for that phrase President Obama) that the global economy has taken and want answers, boy, have I got some videos for you.
The videos below cover naked short selling and how the illegal activities of some large hedge funds basically ran two companies that were at least a generation old right into the ground leading thousands of people to be laid off (many of them my friends) and dragging down my 401K balance and the entire economy.
The SEC is a crap organization that goes after small fry insider traders while ignoring the Bernie Madoff type of schemers and billion dollar hedge fund managers that clearly manipulate the world economy for their own personal financial gain. Anyway, please watch the videos.
I’ve talked about lots of ways to make money besides a 9-5 job but even I have my limits! Based on recent news stories and what I’ve heard about some celebrities doing I’ve compiled my top 10 list of things not to do for money in the recession. Top 10 Things Not To Do For[…]
I read an article on the NY Times website that left me so angry that I had no choice but to share it with you. Everyone knows that we’re all having rough times and people are dying with debts and little to no assets. What we sometimes don’t know is that bill collectors are attempting[…]
That lady over there is Suze Orman. You’ve seen her. You know you’ve seen her. She’s friends with Oprah and if that don’t count for somethin’ well I don’t know what doesn’t! Okay so I don’t really think that Suze is the devil but MSN Money is making such a case today at this article.[…]
