No, really. How much crap do we really need in our homes? I helped my brother and his girlfriend pack up their stuff for a move the past weekend. You will never know just how much crap you have until you have to pack it all up. We spend our money on lots of shit that we don’t need and then wonder where the money went at the end of the month. It’s because of all the crap you bought all month long that you didn’t need!
Okay, so I’m not a minimalist. I don’t believe that you should have an apartment with one chair and two light bulbs and call it a day. However, I do think that we fill our homes with things to make ourselves feel good or as some show of accomplishment and at the end of the day it does not buy the internal satisfaction that we are seeking. Either that or we just see something on sale and we have to have it. Stop it! Stop spending money. Stop buying tchotchkes. Stop buying crap that won’t feed you, clothe you, make money for you or prevent baby number 14 when you already have 7. Sorry, couldn’t help that one. Talk about getting more than you need!
Have a “junk drawer”? That’s crap. Stuff in your trunk you haven’t used in months? That’s crap. Things in the bottom of your bag that hasn’t seen the light of day? That’s crap too. Let’s all de-crapify ourselves this Spring and save some of the money that we spend on crap. Visit Cap’s blog at StopBuyingCrap.com and read their guide on How To Stop Buying Crap. Oh, and when you have to move all your crap, don’t call me to help you.
P.S. Some of you wanted to know if I sold the phones I had invested in. I sure did and put $200 towards my bill balance. Ka-ching!
